Lions & Tigers & Bears, Oh My!!

Marty didn't know what he was getting himself into when he came to join our family! I love newborn photo shoots and now I have my very own newborn to play with any time I want! I consider us even for all the ultrasound pictures where this little guy wouldn't let us see his face.

I have loved being a mom more than I could have imagined! I am still in shock that this little guy is mine and that 2 weeks ago he was still in my belly! Scott and I are still getting used to the idea that sleep is a thing of the past but I wouldn't trade this experience of motherhood for anything. I am loving cuddling with him and letting him squish up in a little ball on my chest. It makes me sad to think he won't be this small forever but excited for what the future brings.

Sorry for rambling on. My brain only thinks in 3 hour shifts now. No longer am I aware of what day it is but rather, if I fed him at this time when am I "needed" again...
I have one hour until I expect to hear his grunts. I am off to nap

Want to know how it all went down? Here it goes:

Scott and I went in for our appointment last Wednesday and while there we found out I was 1cm dialted and 70% effaced. The doctors were slightly concerned about my blood pressure creeping up and the size of the little guy and suggested that if I dont go into labor by Monday the 5th, we should induce that morning. I was so excited to know that there was an end in sight!

Scott went to the football game on Friday night and while I was grocery shopping I decided to get my blood pressure checked and it was super high so off the hospital I went to be monitored and home from the game Scott traveled ( he got to be there at least for 20 min of the game...haha ) Blood pressure was high but not as high as the Macy's machine told me so I was sent home becuase the baby looked good. I was nervous about being induced and debated just letting him come al natural but with the blood pressure continuing to climb I was felt even better about our decision to go ahead with the plan on Monday morning.

Monday morning came and we went to the hospiatl at 7:30. It was crazy leaving the house as 2 knowing we were coming back as 3. my water was broken at 8:00, and epidural given at 8:30.... Oh my gosh the way to go! Half way through the day the epidural decided not to work on the left side and we got that adjusted as quick as possible and I was back to pain free waiting. (any one that can do this natural my hat is off to you... 45 min was enough for me) It happened once more right before labor but we were able to adjust again right in time.

I was not progressing as fast as they hoped and by 6:00 that night I was only a 6 and the baby was sunny side up. I could tell from the nurses face that a C-section might be needed and I so didn't want one. My 2 sisters and Mom were there as well as my mother-in-law playing phase 10 and hanging out and I think Marty was sad he wasn't at his own party and decided to hop into gear. By 8:00 while wathcing Dancing with the Stars it was declared I was finally at a 10 and just rested and waited for the doctor. Doctor Judd ( who I love) came in and told me he was sunny side up still and huge and if I wanted to deliver this baby without a C-section forceps would be needed... (once again, thank you epidural). For those wondering, think giant salad tongs. I hoped I didn't just turn you off from salad forever but if you want Scott to tell you how gnarly it was ask him in person, he tells the story well.

I started pusing at 9:05 and Marty was born by 9:19 weighing in at 8lbs 11 oz. Not huge you may say but with a head circumfrance of 36 1/2 cm and really broad shoulders he is a solid baby. Every nurse that saw him commented on how big he was and he really doesn't look like a newborn. He is nice and filled out and has the cutest chunky thighs. The doctor told me when he saw him that short girls like me aren;t supposed to have big babies like him. At 21 1/2 inches long it makes sense now why I couln't tie my shoes or bend down these last few weeks. I made Scott walk with me down to the nursery just so I could see how big our babe looked compared to the rest of the little shrimpy babies and yes, he looked like their cuter older brother.

We came home from the hospital on Wednesday night and went back to the hospital on Thursday morning to get his Bilirubin checked. Unfortunatly his numbers are too high and he has had to spend the last 24 hours in a light bed here in our living room. We are going into the doctor this morning to see if there is improvment. We will post some pictures of his "tanning bed" soon, he actually has rather liked it which I consider a small miracle since we can't hold him unless he is being fed.

Overall: Thanks thanks so much for the love and support. I LOVE being a mother and am so in love with this little ball of squish. I can't believe he ours and feels so blessed he is part of our little family. The recovery is going well except for my hands and feet have broken out in post preggo itchyness. I can't wait to post more pictures, he is getting cuter and bigger day by day. WIth all the whack jobs out there I have felt the need to be the protective mother and so that is why Scott and I are going to go private with our blog so we can continue to post about our lives with Marty. We have a lot of emails but for those who still want to add please leave a comment with your email!

Thanks again for the love, we couldn't be happier. This really is what it's all about!

Martin Daniel McNairy... Marty is Here!

His outfit for the ride home.

With grandma McNairy.

Seconds after the birth. He did good. He stopped crying when I talked to him.

Angela's princess birthday party on Sunday. Things are different now that I've married into a family of all girls.

Stats:
October 5
Induced: 8:00 a.m.
Got born: 9:19 p.m.
Weight: 8lbs 11oz
Length: 21 1/2 inches
Notes:
Mom and baby are doing great, and so am I (Dad). He doesn't cry much yet and he mostly sleeps all the time. He is very cute in my opinion. He's got a lot of friends and visitors. I got to be there for his first bath. He's yawning right now.
We're going private with our blog so be sure to send us your email if you want to be able to check it out. Post a comment with your email or send it to me (scottmcnairy@gmail.com) and I'll add you, unless I don't know you.
More to come.
